Having a conversation

  1. Tap the language of whoever is about to speak. It turns blue.
  2. Tap the red mic and talk. The translation appears as you go.
  3. When it is the other person's turn, tap their language.
  4. Tap the mic again to stop listening.

To change a language, touch and hold it and pick another from the list. Tap any line to hear it read aloud, or touch and hold it to copy it or hear the original.

A language is downloading

The first time you use a language, iOS downloads what it needs to recognize and translate it, and may ask you to confirm. This needs an internet connection once. After that, the language works offline. If you see "Couldn't download", check your connection and tap the mic again.

Saylate does not hear me

If you see "Saylate needs the microphone", open Settings, Apps, Saylate, and turn on Microphone and Speech Recognition. Check that the right language is selected (blue) before you speak: Saylate listens for the selected language only.

A language is missing

Saylate offers the languages that iOS can both recognize and translate on the device. If a pair cannot be translated, Saylate says so under the conversation. New languages arrive with iOS updates.

Deleting the history

Tap the trash button at the top of the conversation. The history is deleted from your device and cannot be recovered.
