Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 21, 2026
Saylate is a voice translator that works entirely on your device. We do not collect, store, sell or share any personal data, and we have no servers that your voice or text could be sent to. This page explains what the app handles, where it is kept, and how you stay in control of it.
Microphone and speech recognition
Saylate asks for access to the microphone and to speech recognition so it can turn what you say into text. It listens only while you have tapped the mic button, and stops when you tap it again or leave the app. Speech is recognized on your device with Apple's built-in speech recognition. Audio is never recorded to a file, never kept, and never sent to us or anyone else.
Translation and speaking aloud
Recognized text is translated on your device with Apple's Translation framework. When you tap a line to hear it, it is read aloud with the voices built into iOS, also on your device. None of this text leaves your device.
Language downloads
The first time you use a language, iOS may need to download its speech recognition or translation model. These downloads are made by iOS from Apple, not by us, and are covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. Once a language is downloaded, Saylate works without an internet connection.
Conversation history
Your past conversations, each sentence with its translation, are saved in a file on your device so you can scroll back through them. The file is protected by iOS data protection and is only readable while your device is unlocked. Like other app data, it is included in your device's iCloud or computer backup if you have backups turned on, which Apple and you control. We cannot see it.
Saylate also remembers the two languages you chose, on your device only.
Copying and sharing
If you copy a line or share a conversation, the text goes only where you send it, using the iOS clipboard or share sheet. Saylate never shares anything on its own.
No tracking
Saylate contains no analytics, advertising or tracking, no accounts, and no third-party code that collects data. If you choose to share crash reports and app analytics with developers in your device's settings, Apple sends us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. You can turn that off at any time in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your history stays on your device until you delete it. You can:
- Tap the trash button in Saylate to clear the whole history.
- Delete the app, which removes the history and your language choices.
- Turn off microphone or speech recognition access at any time in Settings, Privacy & Security, Microphone or Speech Recognition.
Since we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to export or delete on request, but you are always welcome to ask.
Children
Saylate collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
